Starliner moved to launch position

May 4, 2024

Atop an Atlas V rocket on the launch pad, Starliner prepares to fly its first astronauts to the space station.

Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner is in position on Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, where it is scheduled to launch no earlier than May 6 at 10:34 p.m. Eastern time.

Moving from United Launch Alliance’s Vertical Integration Facility to the launch pad is the last land-based trek for Starliner before it launches to the International Space Station with astronauts on board.

With Starliner mated to the top of a ULA Atlas V rocket, the combined stack stands 172 feet (52 meters) tall. The two rolled to the launch pad on tracks at about 1 mph (1.6 kph) from the Vertical Integration Facility, located about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) from the launch site.
